Index Card for iPhone App Reviews

Love this clean app!!

This is so nice to work with and integrates with Dropbox, etc. so well. Simple idea, very well executed!

Love it!

Helps me organize my thoughts on the go. I just wish you could add pictures in the index cards, then it would be perfect.

Horrible

Theres nothing great about this app. Just download a note app instead. Im a writer and I see no benefit to using this particular app to organize my stories. Its beyond basic, the interface is bland and almost archaic and the way the cards are organized is so uninspiring. Dont waste your money (no way to get a refund anyways), what you see is truly what you get: nothing.

Disappointed

I have the ipad version and have been outlining my novel in it. I was eager to download the iphone version because it said it synchronized with it. It does; through Dropbox. Meaning that you need to upload the newest version of your project to Dropbox in the format of the app and then open it in the device youll be working on. I was hoping the apps would sync without having to do this. Now Ill have to make sure I save the latest version and not write new material in both devices or else, Ill have to save it somewhere, then paste it on the latest version of my project. Im so disappointed. I wish the sync were much better. The 3 stars are because I think the app is great, but this was not what I was expecting when I bought this version.

Outdated!

Last update for iPhone and iPad is 2 years. Screen not optimized for iPhone 6. Still works good but seems to be abandoned-ware!

Great tool for writers

I was looking for an app that can help me organize my thoughts as I work on my novel. This is really simple and to the point. I am able to add notes for later use. Makes my work a lot easier. Good job!

Had to buy again / cant email project

I bought this app before. Suddenly its gone, had to pay for it again. This cost me 3 buck. So its costs the dev some stars. Also cant export project thru email. Very disappointed.

Good app

Good organizer, study aid. Sometimes hangs after a search. Wish it could link with the Windows version of scrivener!

Wonderful

I just bought this so I might have to spend more time with it to be honest but I kind of love it already. It does what I want it to do. It gives me a title, body (synopsis) and notes. And there are lots of options to export and save with. Plus, its fun. A big thing for me.

No Sync with scrivener. Exports/imports only.

Tldr: dont get this app if you need to sync work with scrivener. Instead get something like PlainText (connected to Dropbox) and true sync your project. I bought this app on iPhone and iPad to sync scrivener projects across all devices but its very cumbersome. If working with scrivener is what you need, dont get this app! There are two three major problems: Problem 1: NO TRUE SYNC This app does NOT sync! It only does cumbersome migrations via exporting and importing new documents each time (and then erroneously calls this "sync"). The problem is that you have to deal with deleting old files and renaming them over and over again as you sync each time. It took a long time to figure out how to connect projects (the guides on sync are not very good and if you go to the developers site for support on this, there are just maybe two dozen questions and answered - none of them on syncing). Once I got it set up I realized that there is no true sync. The way you "sync" is this: each time you want to sync from one device to another, you have to: 1. Go through a series of taps or clicks to save a new version of the file into Dropbox (your only sync solution). 2. Go to other device(s) and then create a NEW file onto your other device(s). 3. Delete the old files on your other devices. 4. When you make changes on any device, repeat the above process, always creating a new version file and having to manually delete older files. This is NOT syncing. It is no better than emailing a project from one device to another and then having to delete old projects, every single time you want to sync a change. It is an export/import MIGRATION process, not a sync process! Problem 2: NEW CARDS WONT APPEAR ON OTHER DEVICES The other big problem is that any new file/card created in scrivener wont automatically be added to the export queue. And those that are added from iOS are added in an awkward way. What this means is that if, say, you had 50 cards on scrivener and added 15 more, you have to manually find and add each of those new 15 cards sifting through your stack of now 65 cards and place each into your "sync" collection otherwise this indexcard app will never get them during your exports to indexcard. This is maddening if you are doing any significant work. Problem 3: RE-ORDERING IS NOT PRESERVED It is all incredibly cumbersome and while it is useful for one-off migrations, it is totally impractical if you jump from your Mac to your iPhone and to your iPad frequently.

Perfect!

As a screenwriter, I always use index cards after plotting my story with a beat sheet. This app is amazing because it not only makes the cards far more manageable than the real thing, but the exporting and sharing features are great, and saving paper is always a good thing. Finally, the best part of using this app is that when Im done organizing the cards into all the scenes I need, I just export to text and import to Final Draft and the first draft is just about finished! All I have to do is add some extra dialogue and description and Im done with the first draft! I highly reccomend this app to screenwriters because it saves time and keeps you better organized, and not just screenwriters; any writer or person who needs to take notes or organize thoughts or storylines will benefit from this awesome app! BEST APP EVER!!

Does what I need

This app is good on its own as an index card file, but it does also sync to Scrivener which is what I need it for. You have to follow the directions and create a collection in Scrivener to sync first. Once you do it works fine.

Practical

This is a classic, on the fly, organizer of thoughts, scene building, character sketching, and dialogue. Wouldnt mind a drag and drop element to arrange on large board format. Dig this. Thanks

Index card

Love it. Use it for all kinds of projects and lists. The iPad version is especially good.

Great Little App

This app works great as a standalone or as a mobile Scrivener editor. Its not nearly so difficult as some would make it sound. True syncing would be better, obviously. It works great for brainstorming or writing on the go. With the iPad version you can even export as a Scrivener file. I love it.

Great app

Just started but having great fun, intuitive and simple

Its good. Get it.

It does what it claims and is useful for getting your ideas down and putting them in order.

Index Card is better than index cards!

I love this app. I have it on my iPhoneand my iPad. If I have an idea-boom- its on an index card. I love things that make my life simpler and this app does it.

Awesome app!

I love this app and use it in conjunction with Scrivener and tangentially to Final Draft. My only wish is that there was syncing desktop version so I could use it while on my laptop without my phone/ iPad. Although I was very pleased to find the iphone version since my children always seem to have my iPad! Great app and I highly recommend it.

Versatile!

Great for keeping so many things organized...ideas for my website, notes for meetings, outline for a book Im working on. Endless possibilities.
